Frenchcore: What is Frenchcore?
Share
Frenchcore is a subgenre of hardcore that emerged in France in the early 1990s. Known for its French-inspired elements, frenchcore has become a favourite among fans of hardcore and electronic dance music.
One of the defining features of frenchcore is its use of French-inspired sounds and samples. Many frenchcore tracks include samples of traditional French music such as accordion or chanson, woven into the high-energy beats of hardcore techno. That fusion creates a unique, dynamic sound that sets frenchcore apart from other subgenres.
Beats in frenchcore typically sit between 180 and 240 BPM. The pace carries enormous energy and gets the crowd moving. Popular frenchcore DJs include Dr. Peacock, Billx, Sefa and Remzcore. If you want it even faster, listen to uptempo.
Frenchcore is still considered a niche genre, but it has grown in popularity and keeps finding new followers around the world. You'll hear it at festivals like Defqon.1, Harmony of Hardcore and every other major Harder Styles festival – all the dates are in our festival calendar. Definitely worth a listen.
